Ramsey was located on Highway 287 north, close to a railroad stop that
became Castenada after the AT&SF Railway line was built north of Boise
City, Cimarron County, Oklahoma. Some claim that Ramsey was about one and
a half miles north of the present roadside park, but other claim it was
east of the old highway. No visible signs remain today. As of 1991, it
was still supposedly platted on the county map. Ramsey was an oil boom
town founded in the late 20's. The founder and developer of the town was
Kenneth King. Other associated with the development were Homer L. Johnson,
Robert J. French, and Judge M.W. Pugh, all of Boise City. The oil boom
went bust after only about six months when the Empire rig burned and Ramsey
No. 1 caught fire. A filling station and cafe existed until about 1935.
What was to be the dance hall was bought and dismantled. For more information
about Ramsey, check "The Tracks We Followed" edited by Norma Gene Butterbaugh
Young (probably available through the Cimarron County Museum.) No mention
was made of anyone being buried at Ramsey. Since it was located so close
to Boise City, is it possible that Ms. Richie could be buried there? If
you think this is possible, I could check for a burial there. Hope this
helps. :o)
