Thanks so much for your prompt reply and the very welcome information. The family has always contended that Nellie Chandler's mother, Susan Lucretia (Lulu) Wauhob, was Cherokee. She seems to have been living in the wrong places at the wrong time to have been enrolled, however I'm Cherokee myself, so am quite familiar with searching the rolls, yet have so far not located her. My records have "Ellen Turner" (possibly born in Iowa) as the mother of Lulu and wife of William. I did not record a source for that information, possibly it was my talks with Nellie herself. Lulu's obituary states that her mother and three sisters and one brother were still living at the time of Lulu's death in 1928. By the way, Nellie's "Leonard" surname was from a second marriage late in her life here in Oregon.
