Here goes, I'm 51 years old, getting a divorce after 26 years. We have
three children, one boy [just got married] and two daughters [oldest just
had a baby. I now live alone with two dogs, a mutt and a Cocker Spaniel
[guess their names, Yeh, right, Lady and Tramp] and a teenage cat named
Panther [ guess what color he is]. I have been climbing the family tree for
about four years, keep slipping off the smaller branches. I think my family
tree is a pecan, its plumb full of nuts. They were all English, Irish or
German so far.
I have documented just about all my ancesters through Oklahoma into
other areas. My biggest problems are WALSH/WELCH, traced to Tennessee in the
early 1800's [need to go to the FHC and order the 1850, 1860 and 1870
soundex].
WISE traced to Ohio in the early 1800's [ditto FHC]. My WALSH,
RICHARDSON and WISE families settled around Izard, Sharp and Fulton Counties
in Arkansas [Hardy, Sharp County, Arkansas]. When times were hard they came
to the southeast corner of Kansas and the northeast corner of Oklahoma and
worked in the mines around Miami. I have several buried there.
On the ex's side I am having a problem with DEAN, traced to Arkansas (?)
in the early 1800's. McCANNON traced to Missouri.
I also have a puzzle. The ex's HOLCOMB line, there are two Charles
HOLCOMB's in the 1880 Caldwell County, Missouri census. I'll just list the
families, its quicker :
Lincoln Township:
Charles Holcomb
age : 41
born : Virginia
Father born : Virginia
Mother born : Virginia
Married : Ellen
age 32
born : Pennsylvania
Father born : Ohio
Mother born : Pennsylvania
Children :
Susan E.
age 14
James E.
age 10
Albert
age 6
Mary
age 10/12
Kingston Township
Charles Holcombe
age : 40
born : Virginia
Father born : Virginia
Mother born : Virginia
Married : Ellen
age : 32
born : Pennsylvania
Father born : Pennsylvania
Mother born : Pennsylvania
Children :
Emma
age : 14
James
age : 13
Albert
age : 5
Marion
age : 10/12
Anybody see a problem here?? If I have our Albert connected to the right
family and if I have figured the correct one I have the family history back
to 1595, if not ????????? There is also a married couple executed as
witches in this line.
My GGGrandfather HORSLEY was an early member of the Cherokee Strip Live
Stock Association and leased about 35 square miles of present day Kay County
from about 1870 until the land was closed before the opening by land run.
I'm trying to find any records of this group to locate exactly where the
lease was. He made the run into Oklahoma Territory and settled about three
miles east of Marshall, Logan County, Oklahoma. He also claimed land in the
Cherokkee Strip land run adjacent to his property in Logan County. some of
my HORSLEY family wound up in Shawnee, Pottawatomie [gotta learn to spell
that someday, I think I spell it different every time]. And one uncle Thomas
HORSLEY lived in Wewoka, Seminole County, he was elected to the presidency
of the Oklahoma Bar Association in the 1930's. They intermarried with
JARVIS.
My HADLEY's were early settlers in Lookeba, Caddo County, Oklahoma
Territory. My GGrandfather and GGGrandfather are buried in the Lookeba
Cemetery along with several other relatives. I still have relation living
there by the name JOHNSTON.
What time I spent growing up in Oklahoma was in Enid, Garfield County. I
still have LOTS of relation near there. Need to get there to do some
research at the court house someday soon. My cousin Joy Robertson is the
county genealogist. I tell everyone she is the real family genealogist and
I'm just the amatuer.
You will see me use a clown face in a lot of my e-mail and chat. I just
think he has more personality than a smiley. *<[:-) Besides you will find I
have a weird sense of humor at times. *<[:-D My head is stuffed full of
useless information because I will read anything, anytime, anywhere.
Alright, I've bored you long enough. Remember what Popeye said : "I am
what I am, and thats all what I am". And Nalora, Look out for the sheep in
the wainscoating, and I'll be seeing you at the ministry for silly walks.
And now, for something totaly different..................
