Just as I was leaving the office, my weather alert from KWTV
(www.9online.com) flashed on my work computer that there was a tornado
warning in the Chickasha area. I figured I had just enough time to get home
(Moore) and secure my animals (3 cats and a dog). I got in the house, headed
for the central closet and was horrified to hear it was an F4 or F5 tornado
heading right toward my area. We've never had one that strong in the area
and I realized it would probably raze the house. I-35 is directly behind my
house and at one point the news on the radio said it was coming up I-35.
Then they said it was right at MY intersection. My heart just sank. I knew
I would be lucky if I escaped with even my life. I was so frightened. But
the Lord spared me, the house, my little rickety truck, my neighborhood, my
animals and my computer. I feel SO fortunate! The storm did a sort of
diagonal across the city of Moore and it just barely missed me. I stayed
home from work today to assess any damage but I found I had been spared. The
electricity was off all night but the phone still worked so I could by
candlelight and flashlight call out to my friends and relatives to put them
at ease. At daylight I found to my relief I had been totally spared.
I was shocked when I later read a statistic on CNN and later heard on the
news that the City of Moore has approximately 15,000 homes and HALF of them
were severely damaged or destroyed. (HALF of the town). But the weird part,
aside from the tragedy of it all, was that there is not a single northbound
road out of my area unless you get on I-35. (I hate I-35 so I have not
ventured out there, but tomorrow I will have to in order to get to work). It
has been completely packed. Every single northbound city road is closed and
I can only go about a mile east and west before being in a cordoned off area.
Happy to report that the Lord spared me and it is JUST by the grace of God
that I am even here!
