Oklahoma Counties Township maps are being added to OKGenWeb at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/twpmaps/index.html
With towns, sections and ranges
This site is under contruction but adding one or two counties a day.<
To those of you who know that I'm also working on township maps....
1. Sharon C. & I are NOT conspiring to confuse you. <G>
2. I'm NOT finishing my counties at the rate of 1 or 2 a day.
In fact, we're working with very different scales.
Sharon's maps have one county to a page, with township names, township and
range grids, and even section numbers in the background. If you know what
county to look in, her maps will let you pinpoint a land description within
one mile. These are a terrific resource if you know the county -- or even
the part of the state -- to look at.
My maps have one numbered township to the page -- that's just 36 square
miles, but many counties require over 20 pages. At this scale, in addition
to towns they include creeks, roads, and railroads -- and even some
cemeteries. If, for example, you're trying to find an old homestead -- one
of these will show you exactly which roads lead to it and which section
lines are closed.
If you are interested in a map of this scale for a particular numbered or
named township, or even for townships of one county, write to me off-list.
My index isn't ready yet, but I can look it up for you and let you know
whether the map you need is on-line yet.
