Sharon, my mother still makes chocolate gravy when we all get together.
Here is a recipe but it is not my mother's. Sounds sorta like it though.

3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1-1/2 T. flour
2 T. butter

Sift together dry ingredients. Put all together in a skillet and cook until
thickened. Add vanilla last. Serve.
