Subject: [OKGEN ] WAR LETTERS

Good morning.........I have just purchased and am reading the most amazing
book. Some of you may already be aware of "WAR LETTERS" edited by Andrew
Carroll. This book began in ernest after a 'Dear Abby' column requesting
that anyone willing to share their letters from service men and women be sent
to Mr. Carroll for his compilation project. He received over 50,000 letters
that Americans had been saving from, having received them from friends or
loved ones from the time of the Civil War through Bosnia, today. Some were
copies and others were original. The letters were written by the everyday
citizen, both men and women, who served in all our wars. They wrote about
life and conditions as they served our country. There is an index in the
back, with the names, of those letters he accepted for publication. Although
I've not found an ancestor among those listed.....you might. I have no
connection to the author....I just found the book and intend to give it to my
nephew, a history major, as he graduates from college next week. Sharyn
