I have also had this happen to me. The director said
that the information that he had in his book was his
own personal information and not public information
like a certificate. He didn't want to get into any
trouble with still living relatives by giving out
their personal info. On the bright side, if you have
the name of the funeral home, you can contact the
state health department and order the death
certificate. At least you can here in Oklahoma.
