Subject: [OKGEN ] My brick wall and family history mystery - Benjamin Howden
Date: Sun, 16 Jun 2002 18:54:49 -0500
Hello everyone.
I am new to list and have a huge brickwall and family history mystery!
My great-grandmother had a brother named Benjamin Howden - both were born in
Ontario, Canada.
She married and moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri (north of Kansas City), -
brother Benjamin was born in 1844 and apparently
came through Missouri around the 1870's - told by his sister and brother in
law that he couldn't stay - he died "somewhere in
Oklahoma" in 1901. My grandfather went by train to Oklahoma to claim his
body and he is buried in Caldwell Co.
No one has a clue about why they wouldn't let him stay - why he went to
Oklahoma - or why he died.
Any ideas where to begin? If someone dies in Oklahoma would there be
records?
Does anyone have access to the 1900 census and is there an index?
I would be grateful for any help - thoughts - ideas - direction to other
resources - or any little tidbit of info!
Thanks!
Kathy
