Doug, Thanks!, This is what I know of Lucinda M Smith. born 25 May 1842,
Monroe Co., Tn, Died 9 Jun 1915, Calhoun,Leflore Co., Ok, Monks Family
Cem, Calhoun. Married 20 Jan 1861 in Skullyville, His age 27, her age
18.
Choctaw Indian Agency reports that Lucinda was not Indian and was third
wife of F M Monks.1910 Census, Leflore Co., Lucinda, age 67, widow, 12
children, 8 lvg. was b. in TN. Father b Georgia, Mother b Texas. in
1897 she stated that her age was 55 when she filed for citizenship in
Choctaw Nation due to F.M's intermarriage with Choctaw. (same law that
caused a person to lose citizenship for marrying under these
circumstances as he was formerly married to a Choctaw) Probably the
same as a person losing citizenship when marrying an Alien before 1922;
this happened to my Mother who married an Alien, not Indian, in 1918.)
She stated that she enrolled in Choctaw Nation in 1864 in Fort Smith, Ar
and again in 1866 with two of her children. Initial "M" was taken from
Indian records.
Choctaw court records state that she was a "white woman"

I have searched every Lucinda Smith under 10 in every census in TN. Mo.
and Ar. that I could locate and found nothing that would help me so far.
1870 Census , Sebastian Co., Ar (Center Township) has a John and Martha
Smith, b TN., living two dwellings down from F M and Lucinda Monks --a
brother?
The John Wesley Smith mentioned earlier is interesting as she named her
second child John Wesley Monks.-

Lucinda is my husband's Great Grandmother. I have lots of information
on Monks family that I can share with you if you desire. Maybe we could
compare notes.

Arvezenia Rachel Smith was my husband's Grandmother, married William
Cornelius Monks, son of F M and Lucinda.

I do appreciate all the help with the Smith family and will share what I
do have. Evelyna
