I just returned from my trip to Oklahoma, during which I was able to
make a side trip to Poteau. I did find Hall Cemetery (and the grave of
my great grandfather, Taylor Anderson, who died 29 Mar 1892). Kully
Chaha no longer seems to exist. As others have noted, it was originally
about 3 miles due south of Cameron and due west of Hall Cemetery.
The cook at Warehouse Willy's in Old Poteau was kind enough to come out
to our table and give us detailed instructions on how to find Hall
Cemetery. Even though I had some maps with me, I never would have found
it without his help, for the roads are not marked. For those
interested, the starting point is Warehouse Willy's, which makes a
mighty fine gumbo. You turn right (northerly?) on Witte Street, which
after several blocks curves to the right and takes you over some
railroad tracks and a bridge and then curves to the left. You are then,
I think, again headed northerly. After a few miles the road curves to
the right where there is an abandoned barbeque restaurant. You then
drive straight, easterly I think, for a few miles until the road makes a
big curve to the left. At the curve, you turn right onto a county road
which is an easterly continuation of the road you were on (old 112).
You drive by some pretty fancy "farm houses" and then after a few more
miles Hall Cemetery will be on the left.
Does anyone have any background information on Hall Cemetery?
