Security guard, gardener, WWII veteran

J.C. Underwood, 76, of Stockton died June 27 in a Livermore hospital. Mr. Underwood was born in Spiro, Okla., and lived in Stockton for many years. He retired after working for 10 years as a security guard for Deuel Vocational Institution and Burns Security. He also was a gardener. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Underwood was a member of American Legion Karl Ross Post and volunteered at Livermore Veterans Hospital.

Survivors: children, Jackie Breitbard of Talmo, Ga., Lynn Miller of Kansas City, Mo., and Robert Johnson and James Johnson, both of Stockton; siblings, Jean Lesnick of Florida and Bill Underwood of Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.

Services: memorial, 6:30 p.m. Monday, DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St. Committal: private. Memorials: American Legion Karl Ross Post 16, 2020 Plymouth Road, Stockton, CA 95204.
