Betsill, Emma Michael
On Saturday, July 13, 2002, while vacationing in Hawaii, 11-year-old Emma Betsill died in a plane crash along with her father, Jerry Betsill of Fort Worth, her cousin and dear friend, Meredith Fenimore of Dallas, and her second cousin, Steve Betsill of Maui.
Celebration of Life: Please join us in a celebration of Emma's life at 10 a.m. Monday at Unity Church of Fort Worth. Scheduled visitation with the family and friends: 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and open visitation noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Jerry and Emma Betsill Memorial Fund, in care of Broude Smith & Jennings PC, 309 W. Seventh St., Suite 1100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
Emma was a beautiful, vibrant, joyful child filled with love and light. Her passion for life, her energy, optimism and her excitement were contagious to all who had the good fortune of knowing her.
Emma was a natural leader – even at her young age – always expecting the best out of herself and inspiring the best in others. She was an exceptional student at Lily B. Clayton Elementary School where she had been active in the chess club, choir, Destination Imagination and student patrol.
Emma was an athlete. She played basketball and ran 5K races. But Emma loved nothing better than playing soccer. She played select soccer for Texas Image '91, and she was so proud of her team and her teammates.
Emma loved her parents, she loved her little brother, she loved her extended family and she loved her friends and her pets. The bright shining light, and "wise beyond her years" child that Emma was will be missed by many many people for a very long time.
Survivors: Mother, Laura Hilgart and five-year-old brother, Sam Betsill, both of Fort Worth; grandparents, Virginia Hilgart of Marietta, Okla., and Billy Joe and Ruth Betsill of Fort Worth; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and teammates.

Betsill, Jerry Logan
On Saturday, July 13, while vacationing in Hawaii, 44 year-old Jerry Betsill of Fort Worth died in a plane crash along with his beloved daughter, Emma Betsill, his niece Meredith Fenimore of Dallas, and his cousin Steve Betsill of Maui.
Celebration of Life: Please join us in a celebration of Jerry's life at 10 a.m. Monday at Unity Church of Fort Worth. Scheduled visitation with the family and friends, 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and open visitation 12 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to, The Jerry and Emma Betsill Memorial Fund, C/O Broude Smith & Jennings PC, 309 West 7th Street, Suite 1100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
Jerry, a partner in the law firm of Broude Smith & Jennings PC, is described by all who knew him as a wise, kind, accepting and generous man of great integrity and humor – a fine attorney, a loving and devoted husband, and the best father any child could have.
Jerry, the youngest of five children, is a long term resident of Fort Worth. He began his life-long relationship with his wife Laura Hilgart in 1978 while in college at the University of Texas at Austin where he obtained a BA in English.
In the mid-1980's, Jerry was one of the founding partners of Abbey Road Clean-Aire, an air duct cleaning business with nationwide franchises. During this period, Jerry began serving as a volunteer mediator, which sparked his passion to become an attorney. He graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1996 and returned to Fort Worth to practice law.Jerry was active in the Unity Church of Fort Worth where he helped establish a youth Sherpa group and was a committed member of the choir. He was on the Board of Thistle Hill House and Tarrant Awareness Project. Although Jerry excelled at many things, the job he loved most, and was best at was that of being a father. Emma and Sam were certain in their knowledge that they were loved by the best father in the world.
Although Jerry's presence will no longer light up every room he enters, those that knew him will continue to carry the brilliance of his spirit in their hearts.
Survivors: Wife, Laura Hilgart; five-year old son, Sam Betsill; parents, Billy Joe and Ruth Betsill of Fort Worth; sisters, Gwenna Brush and husband, Don Brush of Dallas, and Brenda Longoria and husband, Ruben Longoria of Arlington; brothers, Joe Betsill and wife, Cindy Betsill of Watauga, and Leland Betsill and wife, Linda Betsill of Bedford; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly, and will miss him deeply.
