Graveside services for James Melvin Worton, Sr. of Thackerville were at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, with Rev. Ron Roper officiating.

Mr. Worton was born May 14, 1922, in Electra, Texas, the son of James Cary and Lillie Parrish Worton. He died August 6, 1997, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta, at the age of 75.

Mr. Worton had lived in the Thackerville community for the past 20 years. He married Mildred Hope Davis November 25, 1945, at Electra. Mr. Worton was a truck driver and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Thackerville.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Worton of the home at Thackerville; a son, James M. Worton, Jr. of Nocona, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janeth and Steven Reed and Teresa and Mike Prather of Thackerville and Vickie Reed of St. Jo, Texas; a brother, Floyd Worton of Humble, Texas; a sister, Velma Smith of Electra; six grandchildren, Wesley Reed, Jack Reed, Jamey Prather, William Reed, Sherree Hamilton Weaver and Mary Beth Prather; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Worton was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Worton.

Services were directed by Kennedy Funeral Home.
