Services for Nettie Mae Thurman were Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of Christ with Bro. Floyd Johnson officiating.

Born October 7, 1928, at Lewisville, Texas, Mrs. Thurman died June 3, 1997, in Brookhaven Rehab Center, Carrollton, Texas, at the age of 68. She was the daughter of David Dewey and Lillie Mae Wallace Bassinger.

Mrs. Thurman had lived most of her life in Love County. She married Jack Wallace Thurman March 16, 1946, in Gainesville, Texas, and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1986.

Mrs. Thurman retired from the Firstbank of Marietta as an Assistant Vice President with over 30 years in the banking business. She previously worked for Western Auto for 15 years, was the treasurer for the Boy Scouts of America for more than 25 years, and a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Retired Colonel Jerry W. and Donna Thurman of Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and Colonel James D. and Dee-Dee Thurman of Ft. Stewart, Georgia; a brother, Dewey Bassinger of Lewisville; a sister, Emma Bell Smith of Marietta; three granddaughters, Jerri Christine Berry, Jaime Thurman and Carey Thurman; a grandson, Ensign Patton Thurman; and two great-granddaughters, Justyn Berry and Austyn Berry.

Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were J. Claude Brannan, Joe Franklin, Homer Koch, Bill McGehee, Gene Washburn and Dub Bell. Honorary bearers were John Yarbrough, Tom Riley, Ray Hilton and Ron Westfall.

The family had requested donations to VITAS' Hospice c/o Kennedy Funeral Home.
