Services for Katherine Lucille Higgs, 71, of Ponca City, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, in the Woodlands Christian Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Merle, associate pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Higgs was born February 18, 1932, in Leon, the daughter of Homer and Bertha (Denham) Idell. She died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center.

A graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of education degree, Mrs. Higgs taught at McCord Schools for 27 years, retiring in 1994. She and Orphia G. Higgs Jr. were married August 30, 1952, in Marietta. They made their home in Ardmore for 12 years before moving to Ponca City in 1965. Mrs. Higgs was a member of Woodlands Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Terry Evans and Carolyn and Nick Kempenich, of Ponca City; a son, Randy Higgs of Ponca City; a sister, Vivian Graham of Leon; four grandchildren, Chip Todd, Shane Todd, Jon Kempenich and Katy Kempenich; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley Todd, Amber Todd, Abby Todd and Chelsea Todd.

Mrs. Higgs was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a niece and a nephew.

Pallbearers were Tom Sumpter, John Reedy, Mike Simmons, Bryant Hearon, Jim Kelly and Jim Devinny. Honorary pallbearers were Clayton Gillock, Jack Morgan, Fred Boettcher, Mike Ailey, Jim Christie and Chad Vannest.

Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, under the direction of Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodlands Christian Church, 1400 E. Hartford Ave., Ponca City, OK 74604.
