Laverne Martin, a long-time resident of Henryetta was born December 17, 1934 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Charles Tweedy and Myrtle (Bailey) Tweedy. She passed away December 1, 2006 at Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years 11 months and 14 days.



Laverne grew up as a young girl in the Okemah area. She married her husband, Perry Oliver Martin, Sr. at age 16 in Okmulgee, OK. They lived in the Okemah area on the farm for several years before moving to Bakersfield, California. While in California, Laverne worked as a cook in a Federal Aviation Administration cafeteria for several years.



Laverne and her husband moved from Bakersfield to Selma, California where they lived for several more years before returning to Henryetta. Later they moved to Arizona where they happily lived for over 20 years.



After returning home to Henryetta, Laverne continued to be a homemaker. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church of Henryetta.



She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Perry Oliver Martin, Sr.; and 10 brothers and sisters.



She is survived by her son, Larry Wayne Martin & wife Kendall of Surprise, AZ; 5 Grandsons, Fred Martin & wife Sandy of Tulsa Tulsa, Marshall Martin & wife Chrissi of Schulter, Jeremy Martin of Surprise, AZ, Jake Martin of Surprise, AZ, and Jason Martin of Surprise, AZ; a Grandaughter, Brandi Brandt & husband Nick of Fayetteville, AR; 4 Great Grandchildren, Faith & Emily Martin of Schulter, Kaden Martin of Tulsa and Emory Brandt of Fayetteville, AR; a sister, Betty Monascoe of Mustang, OK; and 2 Sisters-in-law, Edna Harbuck of Henryetta and Wanda Tweedy of Phoenix, AZ;



Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 10:00 am at Shurden Chapel in Henryetta. Interment will be in Dustin Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.
