Jeanne,
Hi! Just in case no one mentioned it! There is a Miners Museum in
Picher. I found the people that man it to be very knowledgeable! You
have to catch them when they are open (mainly in the summer), but this
summer I got the chance to talk to one of the old miners who was
watching it and he actually knew my great grandfather! There are
pictures, yearbooks, maps, and all kinds of misc stuff from that area!!
It is well worth a trip!! If you talk to people in Picher they can
usually tell you who to contact about opening up. It is open during the
Miner's Reunion each year also.
Another great source is the Dobson Museum in Miami. Their focus is
a lot broader, but it is a very interesting place for those of us who
have ties to this area! They have also been working on a genealogy room
and it is coming along wonderfully!!
Good Luck,
Cyndi

mining history of Ottawa County. I'll keep on searching, but what I
really would like to do is go to Miami, OK and research the town. Of
well that will have to wait until another time.
