From the Romany & Traveller Family History Society website:

"The following occupations were commonly practised by Gypsies, who provided goods and services to local communities in
the course of their travels. The terms dealer and general dealer were frequently used by Gypsies from the late 19th
century, but the terms were also used to describe other traders and shopkeepers. A marine store dealer was a dealer in
scrap materials."

Marine store dealers are to be found in local directories all over the country.

Subject: [OEL] Marine store

Twice in the past 2 days I have come across a term not previously encountered,
viz. "marine store dealer". These were not in seaside locations, but in
Dunstable, Beds. and Windsor, Berks.

No doubt someone reading this will know what this term signiified!
