Hello Linda,
You are in luck. My ggggf is buried in the Howe Cemetery at Long Branch
which is between Speers or Charleroi, PA and California, PA on a hill next
to the Monongahela River. Other towns nearby are Allenport, Dunlevy,
Stockdale. There are some Howe Researchers active on the Washington, PA
rootsweb list. They would be happy to talk to you. One of them I believe is
Marilyn Prinzing although my memory may be incorrect. I believe there was a
Howe in this line that invented the sewing machine.

Prinzing, Marilyn
E-mail Address(es):

Marilyn, if not a Howe Researcher may know who the right one to contact. I
will keep your email and forward any Howe emails I come across. Belle
Vernon is difficult to work on. It sat on the line of Washington TWP in
Fayette County and Rostraver TWP in Westmoreland County. And for many years
it had a Belle Vernon P.O. across the Mon River at what is now Speers, PA,
a boro of Charleroi, PA which was begun 110 years after Speers was settled.

I see that Thomas and Mary How were in Winchester or Frederick Town in 1748
in Odell's book. How or Howe is not listed in my book The Old and New
Monongahela since the Howe's were a little bit further south on the
Monongahela River. Maybe they are listed in the Histories of Washington
County or Westmoreland. If early enough, Howe may be on one of the original
Plat maps by Horner. I have a map around someplace that would show you
where the Howe families lived up the hill from California, PA
