I have also heard the term "consort of" used for the woman of her dead
husband. I often thought that this could also mean common law, but that was
not true.
As to the term widow, I have heard the terms "Grass Widow" for the woman
abandoned or divorced and "Sod" widow for the woman whose spouse had died.
