Another example, cited by my mother from her early 1900's
school days. A principal monitoring an English class
discussion of the use of commas commented that a comma was
unnecessary. The teacher had a student write on the
blackboard: The principal says the teacher is incorrect.
She then had the student insert a comma
after principal and teacher.
