Hello Lois,

My gggfather was James JOHNSTON b. early 1800's in Ireland__best guess
is probably Armagh. Married Ann CARNEY who was b. abt 1825. They had 2
children John and James before emigrating to Canada in 1856.
They are found in Clarke Twp., Durham Co. in the 1871 census. It is
spelled wrong as JOHNSON.
They had 7 more children in Canada, the youngest being my ggfather,
George Armitage JOHNSTON. George married Amy KING who was b 1870 in
England. Their first 4 children were born Orono before moving to
Winnipeg where their last child was born.
I have more info if any of this looks like it might link with yours.
