Dear Kathy and Listsibs,

Three close members of the HOGARTH family married three children (i.e.
siblings) of "our" John STACEY and Emma Jane NEWBERRY of Courtice, Durham
County:

1. Charles Newberry STACEY married Bertha Helena HOGARTH in 1892.
2. Mary Elizabeth STACEY married Henry Washington HOGARTH in 1899.
3. John STACEY (Mayor of Oshawa 1919-1922 and 1936) married Ethel Louisa
HOGARTH in 1905.

Henry (2) and Ethel (3) were siblings and Bertha (1) was their aunt and
their father John Elford HOGARTH's sister. Bertha and John, in turn, were
children of Stephen HOGARTH and Jane ELFORD. Stephen was a son of George
HOGARTH and Elizabeth "Widow" WASHINGTON.

I was sent a large file on the HOGARTH and LAW families of Solina (Hampton)
in Durham County. (I am preparing to send it to the Oshawa and Whitby
Archives and the local O.G.S. genealogy group.) The information goes back to
George HOGARTH and Elizabeth WASHINGTON who emigrated from Beathwaite,
Kendal, Westmoreland, England. Much of the information was collected (in the
1950s?) by Claude Elmer Luther Hogarth LAW.

Anyone interested in any of these families or who might themselves have
additional information (or curiosity) about them is welcome to contact me.

Regards,
Astrid Terras
