Subject: 1881 census look-ups offered--again
Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 11:32:02 -0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)

A few months ago I offered to do free 1881 census look-ups for Great Britain
& Canada. I had some 200 unanswered requests in my inbox, but unfortunately
in early August I suffered a major computer disaster (!)--I had to get my
motherboard replaced. The repair shop backed up my system successfully so I
didn't lose any major genealogical data, but they forgot or didn't think to
back up my e-mail, so that I lost some 1000 messages from my inbox.

Therefore if you requested a look-up & have been wondering what the hold-up
was (!), I'm sorry to say I've lost the request......I have nothing before
August 10, 2002. Please feel free to ask again & I will get to it ASAP.

A few things to keep in mind when requesting 1881 census look-ups:

Please put "1881 census look-up" in the subject line so my e-mail program
can filter all requests to the same folder.

Please give me more info than just a name &/or location. Every bit of
detail helps, & you'd be surprised how many persons of the same names there
were living, for example, in Great Britain in 1881. Ages (even if
approximate), occupations, names of relatives, religion, birthplace...
everything helps.

I have gotten several requests for 1881 census look-ups in Ireland....let me
reiterate, once again, that the 1881 census for Ireland, like so many of
Ireland's censuses, has not survived. These look-ups are for the following
countries ONLY:

Canada
England
Scotland
Wales
Channel Islands

Thank to you everyone for your patience & I'm very sorry about all the
requests I lost; please feel free to request a look-up again....
