Colleen,
I have a book entitled "As the Pages Turn" by Edna B. Chant, which is a
history of Farmersville (now Athens), publ around 1967, since there are some
statistics for that year in it, plus a mention of completion of buildings to
take place in 1968. The author did not do a Forward for the book and it has
no publication date listed, but it was published originally by the Athens
Reporter newspaper. My copy was a gift from a friend who purchased it 10 or
so years ago at Upper Canada Village.
It is about 6 inches by 9 inches and 128 pages, so not large. And it is not
indexed, but I'm pretty familiar with it so if you're looking for a
particular name I can check it for you.
I do look-ups in the History of Leeds & Grenville for any of the very early
families in those counties. It was publ in 1879 and a good number of the
stories were solicited via newspaper advertisements and done voluntarily,
rather than it being a major historical work attempting to cover all early
families there. That makes it similar to many of our local county histories
of today where people don't bother to submit their family stories when the
material is being compiled, then wonder why there is nothing in the
published book on their families.
Since I've researched in Leeds Co. for many years now, I've tried to keep
abreast of available township histories to purchase and donate to my library
here, but I've not seen one on Yonge Twp. itself. Perhaps one of the locals
could help you with that since I have no access to learn about local
printings of books.
