Hi Anne,

The land abstract books are done by Concession and Lot, then all activity on
the lot from the original patent until the 1950's or later, depending on
when they were filmed by the LDS FHLibrary. Without knowing a land
description they are tedious to search.

The land record index films are alpha by surname, giving a land book no. and
memorial, but they give no dates or other identifying info, so you have to
look at the film of the actual land book to get the details on the land
description. Once you have that, the abstract books are easy to search for
subsequent activity. I have all of the Johnstown District land book films
here on indef loan, and some of the land book films for Bastard and S.
Crosby.

But if Patrick Murphy's name appears in the index at a point, it least it
will guide you to a land book and memorial for a purchase or sale. I'll be
out and about this aftn. so will stop at the library to check it out. I
have the S. Elmsley index film so will check it also.

BTW, the abstract books are listed with the other land records in the LDS
FHLibrary catalog. Do a place search for Leeds as part of Ontario, then
choose Land and Property. The abstract index books come up as the first
entry on the page.

Sandy
