Hi, I'm a new subscriber from Houston, Texas looking for connections with
my SC relatives from the Allendale/Barnwell area. Here's a few of my
connections dating from the late 1600s.

The HARLEYS that I am descended from are:

Joseph Harley I, born 1695
Joseph Harley II, born about 1723
Lt. Jospeh Harley, born about 1748
Jackson Harley, born about 1776
Dr. John Harley, born 1809
Robert Rhett Harley, born 1848
Mattie Harley, born 1880 (my grandmother)

I have a Rebecca BARKER (born 1848, died 1883) in my line. Rebecca was the
daughter of James G. Barker and Elizabeth Harley. She married her cousin,
Robert Harley, in or around Barnwell, SC. Following were her brothers and
sisters:

James Barker, born 1838
William J. Barker, born November 7, 1839, died December 8, 1900. Buried
in Mt. Arnon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Jane Barker, born 1842
Medicus Barker, born 1844
Milton Barker, born 1846

another connection is the family of Elizabeth Hanson WILLIAMS of Barnwell, SC.
She was born in 1820, married Dr. John Harley in 1841 and died in
1889. She was the daughter of Wilson Williams and Esther Roberts.
Wilson Williams was born in St. George Parish, GA in 1768 and died
in 1836, a prominent planter,at Swallow Savannah. Britton Williams
was the father of Wilson, and was a representative of the colonial
assembly who served in the revolutionary war and was executed by
the British in 1781. Britton was born circa 1740 in Northampton
County, NC.

Esther ROBERTS mentioned above was supposedly the first postmistress of
Allendale and Esther Street is named after her. I'd like to verify that.
