Hello Orangeburgh SC List Members!

We need to be reminded of the purposes of our List. Those of you who are new to the List, may not be aware of the "Guidelines" issued in February, 2000, re-issued in July, and in January, 2001.

Dear List Members: Guidelines for reprinted as reminder.

ORANGEBURGH_SC-L -- A mailing list for all serious researchers of the people of Orangeburgh Township, South Carolina. The area of South Carolina this covers is determined by the time frame. Of particular interest is the South Carolina "burned counties" and Calhoun, Lexington, Barnwell, Aiken, Edgefield, Newberry, Richmond, Sumter, Saluda, Bamberg, Old Colleton, Dorchester and Old Berkeley Counties. Therefore, primary discussions center around upcountry families (mostly German-Swiss origin) between the period 1735 to 1865.

Additional information on the mailing list and sample families can be found on Gene Jeffries' web page at http://www.netside.com/~genealogy/orangeburgh.htm ORANGEBURGH_SC-D --digest mode

And, Jackie Gammon, coordinator of the "Family Research" project at http://www.netside.com/@genealogy/y2knames.shtml. Jackie's e-mail address is .
This is where we can go to find other folks researching the families we are also researching.

Do a "keyword" search of old messages from the orangeburgh_sc list and usgenweb files from: http://www.netside.com/~genealogy/sub-ogs.htm

Some Guidelines for List Members. (ways you can help make Orangeburgh SC List the BEST and benefit all of us)

WHEN YOU:

find a web site that has been helpful to you in your research, and submit that address to the List

have a web page of your own, and let us know about it

find a book or genealogical resource that has benefited you, and let us know

reply to query, via the List, with pertinent information, or questions regarding family, i.e.,name(s), dates, area, etc., not one-liners such as "Is that Joe Doe"? or "Wake up Call". { those subject lines do not give anyone information on what you are researching} Once a correspondence has been established between the originator of query and responder(s), results of the combined data would be of interest and pertinent to the List and should be posted. The purpose of the query is to find answers or resources which would help us in our research; people who might have information on our family lines, and share the info with us. And, in turn, the List benefits by the data posted.

make your subject line specific (i.e., family name, area )

follow the e-mail etiquette of 'cleaning up' your response

take care to notice your TO: line and your SUBJECT: line when replying-- Change it if necessary!

provide a signature line for people to know who you are

stick to the purpose of the List

I hope everyone will read and try to follow these guidelines. It would benefit all of us. When we all work together, it does go more smoothly.

Please use the research facilities that are available all the time through the Orangeburgh SC List: Family Research http://www.netside.com/~genealogy/y2names.shtml
and http://www.netside.com/~genealogy/sub-ogs.htm and http://www.netside.com/~genealogy/orangeburgh.htm

Thank you,
