Many of you have had contact with Mrs. Josephine Shuler, OG-SGS
Executive Secretary and Past President. She has without doubt
contributed
more hours to the success of the Orangeburgh German-Swiss Genealogical
Society than any other individual. Her daughter died Sunday. She is
not on
the INTERNET but if you would like to send her a card, her address is:

COLUMBIA (--) Services for Lydia Freeland Shuler Allen, 49, will be
held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street
Chapel, with Msgr. Charles F. Rowland officiating. The family will
receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be
in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg, at 6 p.m. with the Rev. George
A. Somervell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
the Myelin Research Project, 1747 Pennsylvania Ave. N.E., Suite 950,
Washington, DC 20006.
Mrs. Allen died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Providence Hospital after an
extended illness. A native of Orangeburg, she was the daughter of
Josephine Freeland Shuler and the late Henry Allen Shuler Jr. She
graduated from Wade Hampton Academy in Orangeburg and the University
of South Carolina where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in
Mathematics followed by Master of Accountancy and Master of Business
Administration degrees. As a Certified Public Accountant, she
practiced in Columbia for 28 years. She served as a Director of the
Columbia Chapter, National Association of Accountants and was a
26-year- member of the Institute of Management Accountants. Earlier,
she had taught Mathematics at James Hammond Academy and Accounting at
Columbia College.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Bland Allen Jr. of Columbia;
and her mother of Orangeburg.
