Dear Dorothy,
I've seen the Benton Co Pioneer listing on your home page and the "Bible
Collection" on Benton Co GenWeb and want to express my SINCERE APPRECIATION
to you for the work you are doing in this area. Thank you for posting this
information so that all can see.
My husband, Goodman Dennis Barnes, is a descendent of the James H. GOODMAN
and Mary LOCKER shown on your pioneer list and James Goodman's Bible is one
of those in the Bible collection on GenWeb. I am researching this
Goodman-Locker line and am seeking further information and have much to
share. I live in Los Angeles and am not familiar with the various
Historical and Genealogical societies in Oregon working on these early
pioneers. I have been in contact with the Oregon Historical Society in
Lane County and have sent for their early pioneer files but am not familiar
with what collection is maintained in Benton County. I would be most
appreciative if you can answer some questions or direct me to anyone that
may be able to do so.
1. Do you know of anyone else who is working on this GOODMAN line?
===No, you might try Lee Gentemann <>
2. Do you know of anyone who might have information on the history, or
location (if it still exists) of James H. Goodman or his brother, John B.
Goodman's Bibles? I am interested in tracking down the oldest copy of that
information I can find since each time it is copied I'm sure errors occur.
(I make them too!) I show a few discrepancies in the Bible information
posted on the Internet and my files and would like to reconcile these
differences in dates. Do you know who typed the Bible information on the
GenWeb page and how I can get a copy of their source?
===Bible information is from the copies made in the late 1930's for the
WPA Project
3. Do you know if there are any collections maintained at any of the Benton
Co historical/genealogical organizations on these Goodmans. I would like
to obtain copies of information in those files and have much to share.
===Try Judy Juntunen <> at the Benton Co. Historical
Museum. She has volunteers who will run down files in the Museum's
collection.
One thing I have is several well preserved, original portrait photographs
of 6 of these Goodman's shown on your Benton County Pioneers list (James H.
Goodman, his wife Mary Locker, his son Frank Goodman, his dtr Mary Frances
Goodman Lloyd RUST, (I believe the name is RUST, not RUSH as shown on the
Bible on the GenWeb) and 3 of my husband's gggrandfather, William Benjamin
Goodman + wife Harriet Amanda Ebert Goodman). If one of the Historical
societies in Benton maintains a collection on these Goodmans and is
interested, I will have these portraits professionally reproduced and
donate the reproductions to that society. (I'll also provide, cheap Xerox
copies to anyone interested--husband works for Xerox).
===SAME AS EARLIER IN #3
4. On your Benton Co Pioneer listing there are 3 people I would like to
know more about:
Charles GOODMAN b. c 1796
===SOURCE: 1860 CENSUS: Benton Co, OR: GOODMAN, Charles 64, farmer, TN
living next to George GOODMAN, age 21
George GOODMAN b. c. 1839 married Angeline
===SOURCE:1860 CENSUS: Benton Co, OR: GOODMAN, George 21, farmer, MO; Angeline
18 MO living next to Charles GOODMAN, age 64
Mary LOCKER b. April 1801
===WPA Bible Records
Do you have any other information on them and would you please direct me to
your source for the listing on the Pioneer file. (I think the Charles may
the uncle of James H. Goodman and the George may be the son of Charles and
I'm researching those Goodman's too. They are not in the Bibles.)
4. I would appreciate it if you would check and correct the date of death
shown on your Home Page Pioneer list for James Edward Goodman. You show
September 27, 1873 whereas the Bible shows August 15, 1884. The 1884 date
is consisted with the fact that he is shown on 1880 census. I think you may
have entered Lucy Jane Goodman's death date from the Bible for James
Edward, as Lucy's is the listing above James Edward in the Bible.
Thank you again, Dorothy, for the work you are doing to preserve the Oregon
Pioneer History and I would truly appreciate any help you can provide.

Historical Soc.
