Greetings;

I am a new list member and, per suggestion of the list owner, shall
proceed to introduce myself.

Michael Monroe Gollaher, father of five and grandfather of four. I
lives with my wife, Nancy, in Boise, Idaho, America.

I have a great many interests, probably too many, not the least of which
is cultural mythology and family history. I have no known connection to
the Orkney Islands, though I suspect my earliest ancestors in Ireland
were most likely Norsemen displaced by Danish expansion northward. My
surname is a variant of Gallagher, O'Gallchobhair in Irish, which
indicated the progenitor was a foreign (gall) "helper" (cabhair), or
warrior who allied with the Northern Ui Neil in warding of the Vikings.

To tell the truth, I stumbled across the website Sigurd has so
eloquently established, and I am just interested in bits and pieces of
Orkney ancient history, legends, myth and culture.

That's about it. I'll probably remain pretty much a "lurker" unless the
discussion turns to a subject which I fancy I know something about.
