You are not alone!
There has been very little going on with this list since I began subscribing
a few months ago. I would like to share a little recent success story with
you all, just to let you know that there are wonderful things that can come
from genealogy research. I came from a dysfunctional home and left my
biological mother at age 15, father unknown. Last year, I became interested
in my godparents, who were also my great-grandparents. They lived in
Portland. Things began falling apart when they died in the 1960s (I was only
4 or 5 then), but I became interested in them and wanting to know as much as
I could, so I started looking into their past and that led to my interest in
doing genealogy. I answered an inquiry posted on one of the many sites that
are out there mid November '99, only to find out that it was from the wife of
my first cousin, whom I had not seen since the late 1960s. Their childhood
was not much better than mine, but they survived and overcame many obstacles
in their lives. I have been in contact with them and another 'new' cousin
since, and I drove up to Washington to meet with them after Christmas. It
was great. When I had thought I was only going to find out info on some
people who had once been in my life, but were no longer of this world, I
found some very nice, caring people. We are busy making memories and
catching up on years gone by. What a great bonus!
I moved to Oregon City right after my husband and I got married 16 years ago,
and we move to Clackamas, OR for a few years, only to come back and settle
back here for the past 10 years. Life is good here-it would be great if we
could only have a little more sun! My genealogy interests in Clackamas
County are minimal, but I figured I better sign up for the list as not to
miss something. I would be interested to here from anyone who could advise
as to how to obtain info from the courthouse (i.e., whats available, how to
obtain it, and the cost-if any) from anyone who has done it. I go to the
Multnomah County library-main branch, and have found a lot there. I was
there on Monday, and found out about 30 new cousins-decendants of my
great-grandmothers sister. I use the Oregon City library a lot, and the Lake
Oswego library has a lot of sources, and nice big tables nearby to spread out
on. If any of you know of any good sources to obtain info from, please post
them so we can all participate.
Good luck to all of you in your quest, and best wishes for good things to you
in the New Year!
Laura
