Kathy,
I would also check the Woodburn paper and the Salem papers. The St. Joseph
Blatt would probably be at the Abbey in Mt. Angel. The Silverton Appeal is
at the Silver Falls Public library and can be reached by e mail. Mt. Angel
had their own paper through the 40s and 50s and maybe earlier. It combined
with the Silverton Appeal in the 60s or 70s. That was a real disaster for
Mt. Angel. I lived in Mt. Angel through the 40s and I well remember the Mt.
Angel News and have searched it week by week for tidbits. I just don't know
if it was published that early. Might check on line for an email address
for the Abbey or Mt. Angel Library.
