I know that there has been some detailed study of the 1851 traffic on
the Oregon Trail. Can Albert or anybody else shed any light on the following?
According to the journals and reminiscences of Neill and John JOHNSON,
the following people were with the Johnsons from New London, Iowa (their
departure point on 1 April 1851) until the party split up about 3 May
1851, a few days before reaching Ft. Kearney: John W. and Jane [MASON]
McCULLY, John L. STARKEY, (maybe) George STARKEY, Sim SMEAD, Ben FOUTS,
Mr. MCKINLEY, (maybe) Charles McCLURE, (maybe) Will LEWIS, and Mr.
MORRISON. I know where the McCullys and John Starkey ended up, but I
don't know who they traveled with after leaving the Johnsons, what route
they took, or when they arrived in Oregon. I can't find anything on the others.
Does anybody have any ideas about how/if they got to Oregon, and where
they settled?
