The most likely path would be the Wilderness trail by Conestoga or
other wagon. Some DID go up the river as well. (Some even probably went
via ship to New Orleans and up the river by steamer.

My ancestors went to Indiana from Botetourt County Virginia, they went
by wagon/ox team.
