A short time ago I asked this list if anyone had information about
where to locate the Oregon Trail diary of the McDannald Wagon Train
of 1865. I want to report that I found an amazing web site with the
journal posted and many helpful pieces of information about the trail

Captain John Thomas McDannald age 48, wife Margaret age 48, children:
George age 24, Malinda Jane age 22 Nehemiah age 16, David age 14,
Emma age 8, Alice age 6.
Philip Edmond Linn (also spelled Lynn) age 53, wife Christena (Teena)
age 47 children: Mary Ellen age 21, Benjamin Franklin age 19, Mahala
Josephine (Josie) age 13, Philip Edmond age 11, Granville Bond age 9,
Charolette age 7, James Oliver age 4, Tobias Everett age 2
Adult children of Philip Linn with their own families:
Frederick E. Bullard and wife Elizabeth (Linn) age 33, 5 children
-- one was Rhoda Bullard
Timothy C. Bowen and wife Margaret Jane (Linn) age 32, children:
Luella age 4 and Mary Jane age 2.
William Thompson Linn age 29 and wife Sarah Agnes (Linn) child:
Charles age 7
Bill Dawsen unmarried, hired hand of W. T. Linn
Jonathan Lonsberry and wife Martha Matilda (Linn) age 28. Martha died
along the trail on August 23, 1865 at American Falls, Idaho of
mountain fever. Jonathan died September 26, 1865 close to Baker,
Oregon of consumption. They were the parents of two or three children.
William H. Shankland age 31, Nancy Catherine (Linn) age 26 child:
Elmer Sylvanus age 1 1/2
John A. Linn age 23. (Was married to Nancy Briggs and had one son
when he made the trip. The family were to come out west later to meet
John. However, Nancy decided not to make the trip and John returned
to IL via the Isthmus of Panama.)
Joe Feddis single man with the J. A. Briggs Wagon
Dr. C. C. Canterbury, his wife, son James and three daughters, ages
16 and up
Henry Frazier died Aug 3 but the rest of the Frazier Wagon went on
George Harris, wife 2 children
Henry Johnson, wife and 4 children (Johnson child died July 26 while
at Waskie trading post)
R. Johnson wife and 5 children
Andrew Jackson Jack Lewis age 34 and wife Isabella age 26, child:
Allen Grant, age 1 1/2, S. Seward born at Cabin Creek, Idaho Sept 6,
along the trail
Benjamin W. Lewis age 28, (brother of Jack Lewis)
Hannah Margaret Lewis age 14 (orphaned sister of Jack Lewis)
Henry Knox age 34, wife Evelyn age 24, children: Jimmy age 16 got
stuck in quicksand and died, Eva age 6, and Eliza age 4 (Minnie was
born soon after arrival in W.T.)
Lou McClain brother-in-law of Henry Knox both in same wagon after
Knox lost his oxen
Plunkett Sisters, Ann age 18 and Nell age 20 (orphans)
Benjamin Shankland (brother of Bill Shankland) age 21 wife Henrietta
age 24, children: James age 3, David age 1 1/2 (Family too frail,
turned back to Illinois at Eddyville, Iowa.)
Joe Geddis, wife, two daughters and toddler sonjoined along Platte,
killed by Indians
