Snippets of The Dalles Area Local History

The Dalles Chronicle, May 29, 2005, Page B2

By Rodger Nichols of The Chronicle

A number of people recognized the artist's rendering from last week as
the Hamilton Motel on West Second Street in The Dalles. D.Z., D.C.,
K.H., D.E., T.E., T and D. B., T.H., J.G., P.F. and K.B. all had the
correct answer.

B.R. added that it was built in 1948 or 1949, and W.G. remembered that
they offered a special rate for truck drivers and promoted the fact they
had plenty of room for truckers to park. Among the early-day patrons, he
said, were truckers hauling Eastern Oregon beef to processing plants in
Portland.

Caption under picture reads: Hamilton Motel - The Dalles, Oregon;
Gateway to Nationally famous Columbia River Highway.
