small problem. The images of the 1880 census on Ancestry.com are too dark to
read. I was wondering if this situation is unique to Ancestry or if other copies
of the census records for this area are also dark. I was considering ordering
the FHL copy, but would like to know what the chances are of being able to
read it. >

Have you looked at the LDS 1880 transcriptions? If your people are missing
from that source, then I would suspect the census was too dark to read. I
just looked at the first page and from the looks of it and I would guess you
won't find a legible film.
