Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2006 14:56:56 -0800
Please join us this coming Thursday at 5:30. We are delighted to have
Janet Marthers sharing her research for her Masters from Reed College.
Program: Janet Marthers, "Feminism and the DAR, 1890-1920" with
discussion to follow.
Thesis abstract: "The Daughters of the American Revolution has not
been historically regarded as a feminist organization. I argue that
between 1890-1920 the DAR provided women with opportunities for
advancement. Through their projects in nursing, historical
preservation and schools, the DAR exemplifies a pro-women
organization. Their accomplishments were notable because they
expanded women's horizons while working within the traditional 19th
century societal framework of separate spheres."
DAR continues to provide us these opportunities.
When: Thursday, Jan. 26th , 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Where: Genealogical Forum of Oregon Library, 1505 SE Gideon Street
(1 block north of Powell Blvd, 3 blocks east of 12th Ave/Milwaukie Ave)
Reservations are not required and there is no cost. Light
refreshments will be served.
Hope to see you then and guests are always welcome,
Nedra
