I could use some help with my stonewall. I descend from an Edward Uptegrove
and Sarah Lewis. She was from Kent County, DE. I believe Edward was also.
According to a hard to read photocopy of an enlistment sheet from Virginia,
Edward signed up for a second time at Chesterfield Court House. He was killed
somewhere in VA in 1782. It looks like he was born in Barracks, ?. The person
who sent me the photocopy says that it is in PA, but I have not been able to
find such a place. His first term of duty was for 5 months at F. Camp. I
believe his parents were Isaac and Rachel (Linton) Uptegrove of Kent County
but he is not listed as one of their children. ICalculating backwards it
appears he was born in 1739. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am
interested in locating any records that might mention the marriage and/or
disinheriting of Edward. I contacted Swarthmore Library and they did a quick
check but no info on Uptegrove in DE. Other ideas?
Thanks
Judy
