Hi, There was a Rebecca Poling/Pawling living in the household of Susan
Taylor, as
head of household on the 1850 Hampshire County, Va(WV) Census.. Susan
Taylor
was (I believe a Hass or Stump surname), my grgrandpa Francis Mayberry was
listed
as a member of the household age 16. His mother had died prior to the 1850
Census.
The other children were with the grandparents Peter & Mary Baer Hass. Later
on the
1860 Census Rebecca Pawling was living in the household of Mary and sister
Sarah Ann
Mayberry Smith. Mary the eldest child of Israel & Catherine Hass Mayberry
had married
Captain Abraham Smith Commanding Officer of Company K, 13th Regt Infantry of
Va.
He (Capt Smith) was killed at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House (died
of wounds).
I have more info on the Pennybacker, DeHaven, DeHass, Hass, Rutter/Rtter,
Mayberry,
Houser, UpDeGraeff surnames. My ggggrandpa was Justinian Mayberry who was a
Capt
in the Maryland Militia Home Brigade during the 1812 War. Justinian
Mayberry lived many
years in Frederick Maryland married Mary Ann Houser born Apr 26, 1769
married on
Oct 10, 1791 in Frederick, she died on April 29, 1855 bur Mt Olivet Cem
Frederick MD.
Peter J. Mayberry born 1833, son of Israel & Catherine Hass Mayberry. Upon
death of
Mother he lived in the household of his Aunt Sophia Mayberry and Eli Mobley
of Hagerstown.
Served as 1st Lt USA in 4th Potomac Home Brigade, after the civil war he was
elected as
Sheriff of Washington Co., Md in 1875-1877; later served in the Maryland
Legislature in
1882/86 and later was employed as a Clerk in the Appraisors office in
Baltimore until his
death in Oct 27, 1902. He was buried in Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown.
Services were
held in the residence of Mrs. William Updegraff on West Washington Street.
Pall bearers
were all cousins A. A. Mobley, I. R. Mobley; George F. Updegraff, Edward
Mayberry
Updegraff; Albert Heard and C. E. Heard.
