Reuben Konoki will receive a pension of $20 a month from the government.
He will receive this amount from March 1914, in that he was 62 years of age
at the time of the passing of the act in
congress. Trouble was experienced for a time in securing the pension in that
the Indians entitled to them were known by different names than they
formerly had been. Reuben Konoki is known on the reservation at present as
Rube Walker.

Klamath Republican January 1909
About 7 o'clock Friday night Sam Walker, an Indian, was arrested for being
drunk and placed in the city jail. He was searched and a gun, watch and some
matches taken from his clothes. He was then locked in the cell of the jail.
About 10 o'clock the girls at the telephone office noticed smoke coming out
of the building, which is opposite the office. Chief of Police Carter was at
once notified and when he arrived at the jail he found the Indian just about
all in.
It seems that he pulled the staples from the door and got into the room
containing the stove. This he piled in the corner with the bedding and
everything else in the room and set fire to the pile. It is not known where
he procured the matches as he was carefully searched when locked up. The
fire was extinguished and the Indian again locked up. Next morning the jail
was empty and the Indian was gone. During the night some Indian or friend
had gone to the jail and pried the bars from the window on the outside, and
allowed Walker to crawl through.
