G'day listers, many thanks to Cath and Alex for their prompt and informative replies.
Unfortunately I do not seem have a link with the Samuel ROSS at South Ronaidshay.

My Samuel was born in County Down in 1790, he married at unknown Agnes MENZIES bapt 12 Dec 1811 St Andrews Moray and they had the following children.
Eleanor ROSS circa 1823 Scotland (not Moray)
Jane ROSS circa 1826 Scotland (not Moray)
Isabella ROSS circa 1834 St Andrews Moray
Andrew ROSS 1841 St Andrews-Lhanbryd Moray
Samuel ROSS 12 Mar 1843 St Andrews-Lhanbryd Moray
Agnes ROSS circa 1847 Drainie Moray

Eleanor 1824, Andrew 1837, and Agnes 1847, came to New Zealand in the 1870s,
they all married and settled in Ross, near Hokitika, Westland, South Island during the Goldrush.
