Thanks Dave and Lisa,

So It seems there were three Thomas and Christian Johnston couples in
the area at the same time: my Christian Lesh, Christian Flett, and now
Christian Sutherland.

I have some more clues about mine which may help. Family stories say
the senior Thomas was a minister and that Christian was from Glasgow
and she died in 1810. Also the junior Thomas, whose middle name was
said to be Toddford, gave non-Orkney names to his sons that
nevertheless seem to be from the Johnston side of the family: Wesley,
Archibald George, Dudley. Does that trigger any thoughts? Maybe
Christian died and Thomas senior remarried before he was in a census.
