Hello Listers,
Can anyone local answer this question for me?
The census of 1841 & 51 before my Sinclair Family emigrated to New Zealand in 1857 gave their home as Newbigging.
When you walk with the Census Enumerator it appears to be the Newbigging showing on a modern day Ordinance Survey map as the one near the Airport.
There now appears to be a lot of buildings at that site.
Is the original farmhouse still there?
I notice Ken Harrison has something on a webpage about this place & as he has Spence family. Also know that a brother of the wife Sinclair[also Sinclair] named a daughter for the neighbouring Spence family. The clues from 12,000miles away suggest this is the place but I am no expert "Pin the tail on the donkey" though.
Would love it if someone has the time to answer this & I dont mind waiting till "The silly season" is over, I know how tourists change the tone & speed of a place whilst its on.
regards,
Barbara in a wintry New Zealand.
