Bonjour,
Here's a challenge......
A very helpful-to-my-1851-project friend has directed my attention to a possible
repository of pioneer stories I would like to tap. Here is her post to me...
>From Cheri Dohnal:
... there was apparently some type of pioneer story contest in 1892, which was
entered by a number of folks who came over in the early years. I don't know where
that contest was for sure, but you'll notice in the cites that one of the dates
for George Miller's story is 1892. That cite is attached to a reference to the
Tacoma Tribune, so maybe that's where the contest was. A lot of references in
this book are made to the "Walla Walla Union" newspaper, so that appears to be
another good source of info. This book that I keep referring to, by the way, is
"We'll all go Home in the Spring..." by Robert Bennett.
Now, I don't know if Bennett included ALL of the stories contributed, or just a
selection of them. Has anyone out there any knowledge of this contest or of the
repository of the submissions?
One of the pioneer story selections (about George Washington MILLER) had the
following sources cited:
Walla Walla Daily Union -- Dec. 7 and 8, 1905
Tacoma Tribune -- October 28, 1892
Albert Belanger
(Still researching the 1851 O.T. migration and BLANCHARD & JOSHUA NOLAND)
