Wendy,
The books that J.B. Wilson referred to are the "Genealogical Abstracts of
the first 2500 Probate Records in Marion County, Oregon", The books (4
volumes - 3 of abstracts, 1 index) were compiled by Daraleen Phillips Wade
and published by the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 2083,
Salem, OR 97308. I am reasonably certain that the books are still available
for sale.

Anyway, I have the books, and I looked up your William McKinney, and there
are two entries, one for guardianship of minors, one for probate.

"McKINNEY, Minors, File #782. Guardianship of children of William McKinney,.
Gdn: John W. McKinney, brother to minors, 11 Oct 1880. Alice N. McKinney,
born 17 Nov 1863; Mayro McKinney born 21 Mar 1867; Elva McKinney born 22
July 1869; Anietta/Orietta McKinney born 15 Dec 1871. Matilda W. McKinney,
widow & mother of minors."

"McKINNEY, WILLIAM, File #554. Intestate. Died 20 Oct 18875. Adm: Edwin
E. McKinney, son, 08 Nov 1875. Heirs: Matilda McKinney, window, 44; eleven
children: E.E. McKinney, 27; Marta E. Adams, 25; Ann E. McKinney, 23;
Henrietta McKinney, 21; John W. McKinney, 19; Mary E. McKinney, 17; Frances
McKinney, 6; Oneatta/Oriatta McKinney, 3."

I hope this is what you were looking for.

The original probate documents would be located at the Oregon State
Archives.

Susan

Can you tell me approximately what time period this probate index
covers? I am looking for a William McKinney whose name may have been
misspelled also - Mac Kinney, Ma Kiney, Mc Inney.
Thanks,
Wendy
