Alan, I'm not sure where you live and what LDS Family History Center you
will be using to order the Weener films, but I wanted to give you some
suggestions. I have found that as I continue to research my family in the
Leer/Weener/Bunde area, I keep needing to go back to films I had looked at
previously to gather information on new family lines that keep popping up.
Advice - DON'T send your films back after your rental period is up!
Instead, request that you be allowed to keep those films on INDEFINITE LOAN.
This will require permission from the Family History Center Director, but is
well worth it and will save you lots of money and time in the future, as you
will invariably need to use those films again. I use the Ames, Iowa Family
History Center, and I am very fortunate in that the Director is Ostfriesen.
He has "created" an Ostfriesen Collection of films that are all on
indefinite loan from Salt Lake City. Besides Ostfriesen films, the
collection also contains records from a few counties in Illinois and Iowa
with Ostfriesen settlements. Most of the films from Leer, Weener, and Bunde
are in this collection and are available to anyone who wants to make a trip
to Ames. The Ames FHC phone number is 515-232-3634, should anyone wish to
call for hours and more information.
