Moin,
as the PDF-file that Russ' mentioned and the mail of Sigrid provide the
background, I'd just add some details on this battle.
It took place on the 25th/26th of September, where an army of 11000 under the
regime of Nikolaus from Bremen fighting for Ocko tom Brook II. attacked the
3000 people of Focko Ukena. Focko collected his army and opened up a camp
near Detern, so that the attackers had to cross a morassy field. Focko opened
up the "siele", so that the only way forward for their enemies was a narrow
dam. This tipped over the advantage as the heavily armed soldiers either
hindered each other or could not intervene in their fight against the lighter
armed Frisians. Ocko tom Brook II. stood no chance and lost 300 (some older
reports claim 3000) souls. But it was only in the fight at the "Wilde Äcker"
between Veenhusen and Upgant a year later, that the tom Brooks were finally
defeated by Focko Ukena.
Information mainly from F. Kurowski: Die Friesen.
